What types of finishes do you offer?
Currently, I offer color washing (sponging), ragging, stenciling, striping, marble, wood graining, bricking, stone wall, stressed/antique finishing, leather effect, parchment, linen effect, and granite effect. I also apply Venetian Plaster. If you have an idea of what you want in your mind, chances are I can do it! Samples you have seen in magazines are always welcome.

Do you use any particular brand of faux painting product?
No. All painting is done using products available at any hardware or paint store. This helps not only to reduce the final cost to you, the customer, but also greatly reduces the time between the proposal and the commencement of the job as no products will have to be ordered.

What areas do you service?
I work in Northern Virginia, suburban Maryland and Washington, DC.

Will you work with interior designers?
While I do not work exclusively with any interior designers, if you do have an interior designer, I would prefer that they be present at all consultations.

What are your accepted payment methods?
I accept cash and personal checks.

Is there a deposit required?
Yes, there is a 20% non-refundable deposit required on all jobs commissioned, payable on the first day of service.

Can you match paints to furniture that we already have?
Yes! If you can not find the exact color of paint you desire, I can custom make paints or finishes to fit your needs.

How will I know what the finished product will look like before you start?
All clients are provided with at least one sample board of the finished product before any work is started.

Do you charge for samples?
Up to two samples per room are provided free of charge, subsequent samples may be done for $30 apiece. All samples remain the property of Finishes by Alan.

Do you charge for estimates?
No, all estimates are done free of charge.

How are jobs priced?
Jobs are priced on a per-room basis (there is no square footage formula used) Because every house and every job is different there are no set prices for services. Quotes always include all preparation, labor and materials. Unfortunately, price quotes for jobs can not be given over the phone without having seen the room.

Do you paint furniture?
Yes! Small items such as chairs or end tables may be done off site, while larger items can be done on site.

Do you paint murals?
I do not paint murals, but know excellent muralists that I can refer you to if you should need one.

Do you prime walls?
Yes. If a wall has a very dark paint on it or it is unfinished drywall, it will need to be primed. This will be added into the cost of the job.

Do you paint ceilings?
Yes. In fact, most rooms look much better with a fresh coat of paint on the ceilings. In many cases, just adding a touch of the room's primary color to the ceiling paint can "warm up" a room dramatically. Alternately, tray or barrel ceilings look great with a nice faux finish on them.

Do you do "regular" painting?
If you are a customer of mine, I can do non-faux painting when the need arises. However, if you are looking to just have a few rooms painted quickly, this is probably not the service for you.

Do you hang or remove wallpaper?
Not at this time.
